Mrs. J.D. Meeks of Topeka, Kansas, says in a letter to The Democrat that although it has been 25 years since they left Philadelphia, they still like the Democrat. Mrs. Meeks made this statement in sending in a renewal subscription for the Democrat for another year.
Plans for building a $100,000 Christian Center Memorial after the war on the Millsaps campus in honor of men and women from the college who serve in the armed forces were announced at a special statewide meeting held at Millsaps College recently.

The new county jail will be erected on Myrtle Street immediately behind the present old structure, according to action taken by the Board of Supervisors at their regular meeting here this week.
The Board of Supervisors sold $150,000 worth of full faith and credit bonds this week at the rate of 1.935 to the First National Bank of Memphis. The next closest bidder was T.W. Woodward and Associates of Jackson whose bid was 1.97.

A severe storm which disrupted the Bobashela District's annual camporee did not chase away Troop 48 and their Scoutmaster Perry White of DeKalb. The Kemper County Scouts remained overnight at the American Legion Lake in Neshoba County despite the storm and enjoyed a most unusual camping experience.
The swimming pool of the Neshoba County Park Commission at Philadelphia High School will open May 22 at 1:30p.m., it was announced this week by Coach Frank Hodges, director.

State Farm Mutual announced today that it is cutting automobile insurance rates in Mississippi by more than a half-million dollars. The rate change, which will be effective June 1, will mean an average reduction of 3.3 per cent for most State Farm policyholders in Mississippi.
Mrs. O. C. Breland and son Bob entertained at a surprise birthday dinner Sunday for Mr. Breland. Visitors enjoying the day with them included their son, Joe and his wife, and two children, Denisa and Chad of Newton.

The Business and Professional Women's Club will sponsor a roadblock for the Easter Seal Society. The Easter Seal campaign is held each year to raise funds to meet the ever increasing number of requests made by Mississippi children and adults for direct services.

Within the next two months city officials plan to seek bids for improvements to the old train depot using state grant funds and eventually turn the historical building into a center for economic development and tourism.
More than 500 people are expected to participate in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event on May 16.
