Safety checkpoint yields arrest of 3 individuals for drug possession

Three people were arrested with drugs at a traffic checkpoint near Union late last week.

The driver, Raina Hope King, 25, of 150 Tapahsha Hina Fluta Road, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, according to Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark.

King also had a warrant for failure to appear in court, he said.

The passengers who were also arrested have been identified as Lacynthia Dixon and Xavier Isaac, according to Clark.

Dixon, 42, of 519 Mills Road, Conehatta, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance. 

Isaac, 43, of 190 Frog Level Road, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Deputies encountered the trio on Friday, April 26, at 5 p.m. at a safety checkpoint on Highway 15 South just north of Union.

Deputies said they smelled marijuana when the vehicle pulled up and could see a clear plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance believed to be crystal methamphetamine in plain sight in between the two front seats.

A search of the vehicle found additional baggies of meth and multiple glass pipes. Deputies reported a strong smell of marijuana coming from Dixon and a search revealed another small bag of meth and a large bag of marijuana.

Clark said the trio claimed they had just purchased the drugs in town and were headed to Conehatta.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol assisted with the safety checkpoint.
