Rockets close out regular season with 3 wins

The Rockets closed out their regular season by taking two wins from Columbus 12-0 and 14-0 and another from Vicksburg 14-1.  In the first game with Columbus, Sam Killens earned the win giving up zero hits and zero runs while  striking out two. Eighth grader Hutt Rushing came on in relief and closed out the game, pitching three innings striking out eight while walking only one batter.  

The Rockets compiled their 12 runs over just four innings with 10 hits, six walks with only one strikeout. 

In the  follow-up game with Columbus at their ballpark things went the Rockets’ way again.  Evhen Bell earned the win throwing a shutout, striking out eight batters.  

The Rockets scored 14 runs in the three innings played. 

Saturday afternoon, the Rockets took on Vicksburg is an afternoon matchup where the home team scored one run in the first but that was all they could muster.  The Rockets took control in the top of the second, scoring five runs with a power ball home run by Will Williams to left field scoring three runs. Two more crossed the plate in the second. In the third, Jalyas Winters hit the long ball to deep right center field scoring two runs. After a driving rain storm, the Rockets scored at will in the top of the fourth to close out the game with seven runs.  

That concludes the regular season for the Rockets. 

Playoff games begin Friday evening at 7 p.m. against  Grenada for the first of a three-game series. Game two will be Saturday at Grenada at 3 p.m., and if necessary, back to Rocket field for the game three on Monday night at 7 p.m.
